Dubai achieves 17 per cent growth in energy sector

The 13th Arab Oil and Gas Show (OGS 2006), a premier event for petroleum industry professionals, investors and technology providers, was inaugurated by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive officer of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre (DIEC).
OGS 2006 coincides with a construction and economic boom in the UAE. There has also been expansion in the energy

sector, with Dubai achieving up to 17 per cent energy growth against a 14-15 per cent global average. The OGS has come into its own as a calendar event furthering the interests of regional companies operating in the oil and gas sector.

The move comes as OGS seeks to explore the growth potential of a global industrial gas industry worth $36.13 billion in 2003, and expected to exceed $51.87 billion by 2008. Industrial gases play a crucial role in global markets and are becoming increasingly relevant to the Middle East milieu due to rapid growth in manufacturing facilities in the region. This year, OGS will emphasize the industrial gas sector, with prominent exhibitors representing the industry and showcasing state of the art applications both vertically and laterally.

OGS 2006 is addressing the energy needs of growing economies by providing refining, storage, manufacturing, transportation and distribution network technologies for conventional as well as new energy sources through our international exhibitors.
Industrial gas use can be considered a barometer for industrial growth much as steel consumption is an indicator for development. The Middle East is rapidly increasing its gas consumption in line with fast paced industrial development. The industrial gases sector is growing at a compound annual growth rate of above 12 per cent in the region.
